<aside> 💡 One of the biggest challenges in modern society is the conflict between the appetite control system shaped by evolution to survive under food scarcity and the food abundance in most of the world brought by the technological revolution. Such incompatibility led to a rapidly growing epidemic of obesity and many other metabolic diseases. We are interested in how the brain integrates homeostatic signals and regulates whole-body metabolism. Particularly, we are interested in how the brain adapts to both acute and chronic metabolic changes and how such adaptation, in turn, affects the control of energy homeostasis. Our research's long-term goal is to delineate essential neural pathways for energy balance, glucose homeostasis, binge eating/drinking, and other related behaviors. I hope my research will provide novel central targets for developing therapeutic strategies to combat obesity, eating disorders, diabetes, and alcoholism.
